Water Sports Part 1 of 2 Over The Water

Two tales to tell of our Caribbean resort's water sports . . .

:: see under water sport over scuba, snorkel - over here >
   scuba
   snorkel

Once upon a time, Rincon was it. Rincon was the name that has been on surfer tongues . It even made it into a Beachboys song back in the early 70's. Rincon is just 28 miles from us on the west coast of the island.

Rincon and surfing — Rincon and scuba — Rincon and watersports are well known - and deservedly so. But Rincon is no longer the fresh unfound spot. It and all its surfers are no longer the "unfound". Rincon and surfing are "found". Rincon and scuba are "found" Done that. Been there.

Now, here in Aguadilla and Isabela are a sequence of pristine, virtually deserted beaches that are just becoming known for their underwater sports : fine scuba in Puerto Rico, fine snuca in Puerto Rico and fine snorkeling in Puerto Rico. Here off our own beach, off our Shacks Beach are sink holes and blueholes in our own reef system.

Our guests can learn scuba right here off our " Shacks Beach ", 400 yards up the way.

Jose of Aquatica will set up a beginners session in the pool one day and off the beach the next.

Jose can also lead full dive expeditions for our guests or fit our guests in with another group.

Snorkel Masks

And for those guests who just want a peak under the waves, we have snorkel masks available for rent.

On The Waves

Kayak

We have sit-on-top kayaks for our guests to take a spin down the beach or out to sea - next stop Bermuda or Ireland if you catch the Gulf Stream. Sorry, we don't have transport back!

Actually, staying along our shoreline, our guests can put some real miles on these sit-on-top kayaks.

They are stable, and open to the sea, so you'll be a part of the Caribbean - not apart from it. Even great for kids.

Surfing The Caribbean in Luxury

We get the wash of the Atlantic coming onto our beaches and during January to April, we have several sets of waves that real surfer jocks have abandoned Rincon for - for the surfing on our beach here at Villa Montaña. Our "backdoor" is just a little way down the beach toward the headlands.

For lessons and guiding, Jose of Aquatica looks after our guests.

And if one of our Caribbean & Atlantic surfing beaches here isn't working, well, we've got more around the headlands. They're failing? Well, we can split over to the West Coast to Rincon.

Waves still not great? Then, we can head inland to our tropical karst limestone canyons for river running and canyoneering. Here the river running is actually body running, body surfing down the riffs. So we don't see a way that we can lose a day. Exhaustion? Yes, that will do it.

We have several local surfing shops at Aguadilla:

First there is Aquatica with Jose: T: 1 787 890 6071.

El Rincón Surf Shop, Aguadilla: T 1 787 890 3108 .

The prime Caribbean surfing here at Aguadilla is a well kept secret.

Please keep it that way as we don't want to be overcrowded like our surfer neighbors across the way at Rincón.

Windsurf the Caribbean in Luxury

Same goes for our windsurfing. We've got the waves. We've got the wind. We've got the teachers to get you up and out. We've got the board shop down the way to rent our guests the right shape of board and sail. Not all days will make a learner feel comfortable. We can get severe challenges when the Atlantic kicks up the rollers into foam - usually December through mid April. In the morning and evenings we can usually get the right winds for our learners to take flight. And always it's good season for learning from May through November.

As you walk through the Caribbean resort enclave, you'll pass a resting wind surf sail here and there, a beached surf board with it's fin hunting for fun just like a shark on the make.

Kayak, sit-on-top - Off Our Caribbean Luxury Resort

We have sit-on-top kayaks at our Caribbean resort. Putting on a pfd (life preserver) you can put some miles on the wash of the surf heading north to the headlands along the reach of the bay or south through Shacks Beach and beyond.

The craft are inherently stable and have sealed-in air flotation. Great for kids too. The wash of the warm surf will come over and into the sitting cockpit on occasion, allowing you to take a dip in the sea as well as a paddle along it. Really want to take a dip? Park your kayak on the beach and go for a real swim, then back in the kayak for more exploration.

Slightly Over The Waves . . .

Kite Surf | Kiteboard at Our Caribbean Luxury Resort

The next progression from windsurfing has taken over here , too, in our corner of the Caribbean with expert kite surfing just off the resort.

Our Caribbean kitesurfers or Caribbean kiteboarders can usually find a good set of wave breaks to get them air born.

If the wind and waves aren't working here right at Villa Montana, it is likely that they will around the headlands.

Some of us just watch in awe from the restaurant as we set up for lunch. How do they do it?

A beautiful sight to behold.
