Caribbean Surf Fishing From Our Caribbean Resort

Our guests who bring their own fishing tackle, do surf casting, beach fishing along our three miles of beach open to the North. In the winter months of December, January, February and March, we usually have a significant surf running and the casting and surf offer a real challenge.

There is more than enough area for our fisher folk to have a vast stretch of beach to themselves.

There is no where in our area of northwest Puerto Rico to rent tackle, so a guest needs to come equipped to take advantage of our Caribbean beach fishing - our Caribbean surf casting.

Now, some guests have taken out a kayak and worked the breaks from above, the moved east up the beach to the more secluded reef areas.

Casting Further Afield

For Puerto Rico Tarpon fishing on light tackle and fly rods, we have to leave our private enclave on the Caribbean and do a 45 minute drive to the south west of Puerto Rico - -down in Cabo Rojo. This area is on the Mona Passage and also has lagoons to support tarpon and other light tackle fish. Some of our guests even do fly fishing with the local guide down there Captain Rosario of Light Tackle Fishing Adventure. He will access different places to challenge the light tackle fishing art in Puerto Rico - like the mouths of the rivers, reefs, mangroves, and estuaries

In our part of Puerto Rico, it is Captain Rosario for Caribbean light tackle fishing for tarpon and tarpon fly fishing.

Caribbean Tarpon Fishing - amongst the mangroves is a speciality of Captain Rosario. He has a lot of experience behind him with Puerto Rico sport fishing with fly rods and light tackle . Tarpon are plentiful here in Puerto Rico. Our waters are still clean and unpolluted with agricultural run-off.

In our part of the Caribbean we have Caribbean deep sea fishing of excellent nature to the south of us in Parguera . This is an hour's drive form our resort.

With Caribbean deep sea fishing in the unspoiled waters of the Caribbean Sea off the South West Coast of Puerto Rico, our guests have found fishing grounds that rival their best world experiences.: Cuba, Mexico, Maldives - they keep coming back to our world of Caribbean sport fishing here in Puerto Rico. Down at Parguera, the waters which are home of one of the largest Dolphin fish runs in the world and excellent Blue Marlin and Wahoo fishing grounds.

Blue Marlin hook ups in Caribbean Puerto Rico are more common than any other billfish. This is the fish that will test both the angler and the tackle.

Dolphin fish at La Parguera running with seabirds, commonly average in size from 25 lb cows and 50 lbs. bulls. These are lots of fun to catch acrobatic fish, with multiple hookups, and a delicacy at the dinner table.

Wahoo also forage the waters off La Parguera and are great fun to catch.

Captain Mickey is the man who will see to your Puerto Rico sport fishing:

Capt. Mickey has been fishing the waters of the Caribbean off La Parguera for the last 25 years. He came to this side of the Island to complete his post graduate studies in marine sciences in 1978. Back then he was an avid Scuba Diver and Surfer.

While at La Parguera he was introduced to Deep Sea Fishing by his College friend Juano, who lived in the fishing Village of La Parguera.

Capt. Mickey's first Blue Marlin was caught in a solo trip in a 15 foot wooden skiff. After that experience he knew what he wanted to do for the next 30 years.

Mickey fished with Juano all through the 80's in his 20 ft. Mako. Later Juano which also became a Coast Guard Certified Captain, came to be the first mate of the Bertram 31 MAREJA when Parguera Fishing Charters was established in the early 90's.

Because Capt. Mickey was trained as a Marine Biologist, he is always willing to share his knowledge of the environment of La Parguera, a very beautiful and interesting Barrier Reef Fringing Mangrove System.

But more importantly he will strive to make your fishing experience an enjoyable one.
